DAYLILIES are members of the lily family. The
correct botanical name is Hemerocallis.
THE FLOWER STALK that holds the flowers is called a SCAPE. Each scape
carries a number of individual flower buds which bloom one or two at a
time over a period of several weeks to about a month.
EACH FLOWER IS OPEN for only one day and thus its name.
The flower folds up at the end of the day, shrivels up and drops off the
flower stalk after another several days.
